Hedland Well Women’s Centre, Luma for Her Health and Wellbeing and BHP Partner to Deliver a Women’s GP Telehealth Service in Hedland

BHP are partnering with the Hedland Well Women’s Centre to provide an innovative and unique service delivery model telehealth GP service through Luma, specialising in female sexual and reproductive health services for women in the Hedland community.

The six-month pilot program will commence later this year and involve video enabled telehealth appointments between the HWWC Nurse, the Client and Luma GP. “This will see an increase of women’s health GP appointments via telehealth made available to women living or working within the Town of Port Hedland or surrounding communities,” said Hedland Well Women’s Centre Chief Executive Officer, Kianna Barker. Appointments will cover a wide range of services including contraceptive counselling and prescription, sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening, hormone related consultations, and management of conditions such as endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

BHP Manager WA Community, Rachel Donkin, said, “We are committed to improving the availability of health and community services in Port Hedland.

“This program will increase access to holistic healthcare and offer women support for reproductive health concerns and during pregnancy. It’s a great initiative – one we are proud to support.”

Established in 1991, Hedland Well Women’s Centre (HWWC), is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation, providing services that offer support for women aged 16 and over to reduce the incidence of disease and actively improve the health and wellbeing of women and their families in the Hedland area. HWWC’s objective is to deliver health promotion activities and programs that improve the ability of women to have control over their health.

Luma for Her Health and Wellbeing, located in metropolitan Perth (Northbridge and Joondalup), is a for-purpose, not-for-profit organisation operating since 1977. Accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the organisation provides reproductive and sexual health services as well as overall general healthcare to women. Luma has current GP staff who are highly trained as women’s health practitioners.

Local access to GP services specialising in women’s sexual and reproductive health advances the provision of accessible high-quality specialised healthcare to the Hedland community.
